I haven’t really printed TPU, I’m curious how others have your printers physically setup to do it. I’ve got a Bambu X1C as well as an external filament dryer I got specifically for building these things.
I live dangerously and just print on my open printers, spool out in the open. I use my Bambu A1 minis for the tire parts and print the other TPU parts on my Prusa MK4S or Core One, spool out in the open. I do dry the filament prior to printing, and so far my only TPU issues were self inflicted wounds (forgot to change infill once - 15% in a cushion is WAY too much)
I print directly from a Creality dryer that is set as close to the back of the printer as I can get it.
I print on my A1s also for tpu
Also print on an A1, spool open but dried before use. I did print a bearing roller for the A1 that helps a lot. But its really not too bad. For normal 95a use the bambu 95a profile, for 95a HF or 98a use the Bambu 95A HF profile. Has been working great for me.
I dry and did a roller as well!
Because we are in high humidity area, I print my TPU from a $30 sealed Polymaker dry box right next to the back of my P1S. The dry box is connected to the printer with about a 5" PTFE tube.
I’m in high humidity also. Summers in missouri can get bad. I’ve been thinking about using a dry box.
I am in the FL panhandle. All we know is humid. The 3 days a year that we get humidity below 50% we don’t know what to do with ourselves lol. BUT all my printers are in a basement and I have a very large dehumidifier that runs 24/7 in here. Keeps this room around 40-45%
I’ve been there. It’s the worst! My hair was a frizzy mess the entire time lol.
I was just looking at the X2D. I told the hubby that’s what I want for Christmas!
I have a creality dryer too. I think I need a new counter or stand for my printer since I don’t have a way to set the dryer down so it can feed without an issue
I use a heated Polymaker box. Feed straight from the box. I can usually get the humidity down around 15% during the print.
@NWCC what’s your take on TPU and Bambu printers? Which is best suited for it? I’m considering buying another printer and dedicate it to TPU use. Not sure if I saw you mention you print it on an A1
So far, as far as bambu printers, the A1 is the only one I have used for TPU. I just got the X2D and have not tried it on there yet. But I do have notifications set up for when the TPU Assist extruder comes out on the 7th so I can order one and then my plan is to try it on the X2D with PLA supports.
As far as the A1 goes it does a great job printing it once you get the settings dialed in correctly.
I saw that TPU assist thing, wonder how it will work out. I saw a few videos on it that said it’s good but didn’t really show much improvements with TPU prints. Like it’s good but not make or break you need it for TPU.
I look forward to any reviews you share on it
Ditto - I only use my A1 for TPU. I am happy with it, the cushions can be a challenge. I’d be interested if there is a core X/Y printer in the A1 price range that does TPU well.
Refurbished P1S from Microcenter—I often see them for $329. Or you can buy a brand new one for $399. These things are absolute workhorses.
I do all my TPU on a P1S without any problems. I do feed directly from a Creality dryer.
Wish microcenter had built in Orlando instead of miami
My main reason for wanting to try it is because I have had issues with TPU feeding fine for a long while then just stopping. And I am hoping that the assist extruder will help with that problem. I will be sure to post my findings here so everyone can learn at my expense
But there will be an additional delay. Should be able to order on 5/7, but I leave tonight and wont be back to install till around 6/4
Dang work always getting in the way of the fun!
