TPU issues at higher heights

Having a tough time getting TPU to print clean at higher heights. Filament has been dried for 24 hours. It’s running out a dryer box. I have always used A1s for TPU and never ran in to problems. Have printed many airless basketballs and multiple day TPU prints and have never had these problems.

I noticed this problem with my prints and decided it was due to the print wobbling when it is taller. I decided to add supports and it eliminated the issue for me, you could also slow down your acceleration I would assume.

I’m going to slow it way down and see if it helps. Never had a problem with TPU on the A1 so don’t really want to switch over to a different printer.

Ok, I’m on my 6th TMT. I have enough failed cushions I’m going to make a bed out of them…lol.

I’m the guy who removed the holes from the upper cushion in Fushion360. That is the only thing that got the top part to print well. I also added manual supports up the middle of the back of the bottom support in three places ( not the holes ) just to stabilize it. I now run my filament out of a dryer box at the back of my A1. One thing I noted lately is that the black cable going to the print head was hitting my cushions when they got high so make sure that is secure so it isn’t hanging. I also put a string to hold back my dryer box, because it tipped over once when the filament got hung up on itself. Also make sure before a print to give it some slack in the filament because the print head will move from the upper left down to the middle fast and this has pulled over the box.

In this pic I didn’t yet secure the black cable

That’s awesome! Are you using just the standard TPU 95 profile? I have a TPU profile I normally use that prints pretty great but it adds so much time to the print.

I also didn’t realize this was the bottom cushion that I am having trouble with. Apart from the bridging on the holes for the back cushion, it printed nicely.

I got a TPU 95 profile from Makerworld and then AI’d the heck out of it. It works for me absolutely fine on my A1. I now love TPU, just printed a disc golf “Putter” 15 hours. You really need to work with small test pieces and get it dialed in as they say.

Piggybacking on this post, since it’s semi height related. Is there a strict requirement that TPU pieces have to be printed in the orientation given in the files? For example, Cushion Base and Cushion Back are oriented 90degree vertical, leading what it seems like common quality issue around strap holes. Can I orient say, Cushion Base and Cushion Back horizontally, so I can use PLA supports? Have access to H2D so plate dimension won’t be a problem for horizontal orientation.

The challenge I see is that at such a low infill the top of the cushion would have nothing to rest on. My two shinny Lincolns

Ah yes, thank you, didn’t consider what’ll happen to infills. I’ll stick with vertical orientation, and throw in some PLA support for the cutouts.

On makerworld there is a complete profile for the H series printers, and there is a one piece cushion that you might like better.

Oh? I chose the 0.6mm profile because figured I’ll do bulk of the print with 0.6mm head. Presume I can take a peek at the H2 profile for that larger part, and adjust layers accordingly to print at 0.6mm. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you! I used this profile and slowed the print way down and it seemed to have helped. Left the handle grip printing and it came out great.

One of the tire grip sets and the handle grip came out looking so good.

Was trying to using my old Flashforge AD5M to help with a set of tires and it had a nasty shift. More than likely something to do with the printer. The bottom half looked amazing.

I am loving this opal TPU from Ziro! So pretty and is going to go great with the wheels after I print the tires in it also.

That looks awesome! Your wheels look amazing. That butterfly was a nail bitter print for me with all those colors, but it looks so good! Very nice job… I picked up 3 rolls of the Opal on my last order and now I know what it looks like. Thank you!

I think this is my favorite chair yet. I can’t wait to see it with the wheels and tires on it.

Thank you! I originally started doing the colored part on the wheels in translucent. That did not work LOL. You could see through it and it had very little color and showed all the infill.

I’m working with some translucent now on some minion wheels, but it has a light blue tint. You can still see the infill but that looks kinda cool to me. lol

I used translucent yellow on my minion wheels and I thought it looked great but it just didn’t work with this butterfly.
