Redesign of the Cushions - No Holes

@MakeGood_Noam

I don’t want to reinvent the wheel - Is there a file? I know we need the back holes in the bottom seat cushion for the lap and long harness straps. Can we remove the rest or has someone already done this? Would it be approved? I know we’ve been told that you can make a foam cushion and these would not have the holes.

This old guy figured out how to do it, not perfect, but 5 hours in I closed up the hole and maintained the infill pattern.

Hey! There are STEP files on the google drive, you can bring thsoe into fusio nand delete the holes pretty easily. This is on the v1.5 list!

Google the free hobby license for Fusion. Don’t get sucked into paying for it!

Well maybe I’m not as old as I think I am. I know most of you would have had this done in minutes, but doing it in an afternoon is a win in my book. Thank you Perplexity :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I removed all of the holes and removed 2mm of the base so that there are no overhangs.

I hope it is ok that I am posting this… it has not been approved.. @MakeGood_Noam ?

I hope I shared it correctly…lol

I’m not going to get to test it for several days… finishing TMT #2 now.

I sure will. Hopefully it will be done before I leave in the morning. If not I will report back as soon as I get home from the delivery tomorrow evening.

It looks great so far!

Totally fine for forum members to post files here to try out! That’s the point! If it works well we can integrate it into the next release thanks!

First I take my hat off to all those who spent hundreds if not thousands of hours in total in development. Opening the design in Fusion for the first time, I was dumbfounded. The parts are pieces of art. Here I am, hacking up a masterpiece. I want it to be known I mean no disrespect to the developers. In my field I solve problems, if I can’t fix it one way, I’ll take another path. I tried everything I could to get my A1 to print a really nice cushion. I just couldn’t do it. So I took another path. Again thank you all for all you do.

You did excellent on your edit! This is hands down the best cushion I have printed so far!!! And this is using the same settings as my others lol

Don’t mind the color change. I had some leftover pieces of a roll I used up for this test.

Thank you so very much. I just realized I needed to paint the seam down the back. When I sliced it, it wanted to wrap the seam around to the front. Have a safe trip today. Looking forward to hearing how the two deliveries go.

And dang, how fast do you print TPU?

Yeah I didn’t even think about it. Will pay more attention on the next one. I ran out of the blue color I was using for the current chair but it should be delivered today

Thank you! We are about an hour into the trip. Just stopped for some breakfast lol

This one I capped at 6mm3 but when the blue 98a comes in today I will print that at 10mm3 so it will be even faster.

When I get home I might take a stab at taking the 2 front holes out of the bottom cushion. But I’m on the fence about those because that’s one I could see being needed before any others. You did the ones that really caused crappy print quality

Oh and I wanted to mention that cushion was printed with a .6mm nozzle. 2 walls. 2% gyroid infill and it came out nice and soft.

So what is there a thought on if we can use this no hole back cushion for a print? All I have left to print is the back cushion out of TPU Air and the last one I did the holes were horrible. Id rather not have another bad print if I can just print this.

If not I was thinking PLA supports, but that is a lot of time and material that might not be needed if I can just print this.

I used the one @Little_Charlie made on my last chair and it worked great!

Thanks I will start the print now and see!

Please post a pick of how it turned out. Also what is your oppinion on the bottom edge. I haven’t gotten back to fusion to try to add a filet to the bottom.

Here it is after printing, seems like it turned out great. Besides the dumb stringing from the TPU Air but that happens no matter what. Annoyingly there is none on the back but it is easy to clean up and harmless overall.

Thanks for sharing, I was always under the impression that the holes were there so the harness straps could go through them. Looks like that’s not necessarily the case.
