I am currently working on a web-based configuration tool to help with planning color layouts. It is still in progress, but I wanted to see what features everyone would like to see included. If it turns out to be useful, maybe it could be hosted here. Otherwise, I can put it on my own domain and run it from there.
Right now I have the basic layout working, and I am also building in the ability to export the design to PDF so it can be saved or printed for reference during the build. I am hoping that will make the process a little easier when it comes time to assemble everything.
This version is based on the STEP file that was released, so I noticed there are a few differences compared to the current version. If I can get the updated file, I can revise the tool to match the latest release.
Let me know if this sounds like something useful, and if there are any features you would like added.
I was looking for something like this, especially since it was my first build. I was trying to see how all the parts would fit together and how the colors would look.
Thats the step file that im using for the base of the 3d rendering at the moment. I am hoping to get an updated step file that includes all of these components that I can change it out with.
I am making some good progress on it! Here are a few more peeks at what is coming. One is a view of the main screen used for designing the TMT and the second is how the export report is currently rendering (don’t mind the weight in there for the red - that is just test numbers at the moment).
@MakeGood_Noam Do you happen to have an idea when it would be available, so I can integrate into this? No rush, just curious and more for planning purposes.
I am truly honored and blessed to even be part of this project. I am surrounded by some absolutely talented, selfless individuals. This is incredible, phenomenal, amazing…. I am working with my first family. They are all over the place with colors lol, and I want to make this just the way they want it. They are so appreciative. A tool like this would be perfect for showing them EXACTLY what their TMT would look like. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Can’t wait for its implementation.
I actually printed a ¼ size model. This way I can use it to see what parts need to be what colour for reference. This tool will be awesome.
if you’d want to expand it to a filament manufacturer and colour references that would be very cool. Once the model is painted with the colours, it would generate a list of the colours by brand.
I am actually building in the ability to have multiple manufacturer/types I only have two manufacturers and a handful of colors built in at the moment.
There is a materials list that will print with the PDF and when a verified color is used, it will link to the manufacturer’s website to make a purchase. If it is a manufacturer where we had to guess the color - then it will have a message saying something along the lines of this color is estimated or something like that.
I am currently working on migrating my domain to a new host, so it will take me a day or two to get everything up and running. But there are a few things that I would need assistance with. The first will be ultimately just testing the system to make sure it works as intended. I anticipate reaching this phase within the next week baring any unforseen issues. The second will be helping to populate the manufacturer/type/color system. I am building out a bulk submission page to help with that. Once my domain is migrated over, and the page is functional if you are interested I will send the link to you.
If anyone else is interested in testing it out, let me know and I’ll add you to the list for testing as well.
Happy to test as well - I briefly thought about building something like this (although a lot more basic!) so would be really happy to have something that makes the design easier.
If you want to see if anyone can figure out how to use it, I’m your guy. I only figured out how to upload and download to Google drive because of this project…lol
That is what I am thinking. I am going to prevent the use of PLA in the system, that way it doesn’t inadvertently make it into it. For TPU, I also have that set by item, so TPU specific items can only take TPU; for instance, the cushions.
I am still waiting of the domain to port over to my new host, I am hoping that process will be complete soon. I am close to moving into the populate colors and test phase. I am hoping to have more of an update in that department soon.
I decided to rework how a few things function, so that set me back a few days. But I almost have all the kinks worked out of those changes.
