3DTMT Custom Hubcap Generator

After seeing how neat the fully custom wheels have been coming out, I wanted to contribute a way for more builders to provide similar customization with less setup complexity and the flexibility to easily change with the child’s future interests.

Introducing the 3DTMT hubcap generator: https://tmthubcaps.pages.dev/

Upload any image and it will convert to a ready-to-print hubcap that snaps right on to the stock wheels. It uses the exact geometry of the standard mounting cap to ensure a snug fit.

Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

Have you had any issues with them not wanting to stay in? I know with the regular cap I usually have to glue it in with a bit of hot glue for it to stay securely.

This seems very cool, we should also create a storage folder somewhere that we can store generated caps that have been created. That way we can use some that we know were successfully printed.

I can create a new folder on my google drive with the full custom wheels so it’s all in one place if that works.

They feel pretty secure but hot glue or similar would definitely help ensure it stays put. Caveat these are not kid tested yet - my first chair is in the final stages of production. I went ahead and posted anyway as I just had the final tire fail at 30 hours in and needed something more positive to think about haha.

As for a folder on the drive that would be more than welcome - the goal was for the site to be simple enough anyone could generate a hubcap (and match the number of colors their machine has available), but I can certainly see how a “library” would be valuable!

Ouch. That sucks!

Ok I will add a folder to the custom wheels folder for the hubcaps if any one wants to upload them

Ok new folder added to the Custom Wheel drive. And if I did it right, anyone should be able to upload a hubcap in that folder.

Thank you for sharing this, and creating it!

I’m uploading images, yet they’re coming out square or rectangle, it would be awesome to crop it into a circle, star, heart, etc.

Thanks again.

Ugh, same thing just happened to me. 30.5 hours in. It was going perfectly and then just quit extruding. Sigh.

Same as well! Let me know if someone figures out how to crop around! I tried a butterfly!

Also can we help the moms who know NOTHING about files LOL. I only have my phone also so I don’t think it’s possible- I’m looking to save up for a laptop to slice files etc on. I tried online but I’m not getting the model downloaded in Bambu studio! Any help would be appreciated I’d love to reprint the butterfly wheels for the chair I’m putting together now.

Can you share the butterfly you tried (and @boasist what you tried as well)? It will do the cutout without a square or box if the image is transparent, but I might need to add a background removal step to support more kinds of images.

And I’ll look into if there’s a way to bring it into Bambu Handy instead of only supporting Studio, good suggestion!

Are you talking about the butterfly wheel from here?

if so that’s not the hubcap that this thread is for, that is the complete wheel. I can print the wheel for you when I get caught up with these others and ship it to you. I just ask that you cover the shipping.

Yes I was trying to slice the file, I can’t get it to work on my tablet or iPhone. I’m hoping to invest in a laptop soon when it fits our budget. I’m just learning.. we bought the printer for our daughter but we are now printing for kids around us.. we just delivered our first chair. I am supposed to deliver the next chair Monday so unfortunately it’s a time crunch! But if you could put me in the list for my next build!

Just post in the Wheel thread when you select your next build for which wheel you want. And if you need something we don’t have just let us know and we can do that as well. Also if you would prefer the hubcap I don’t see any reason I cant print those instead of a full wheel.

Just pushed an update that adds background removal from non-transparent images like the butterfly. However I wouldn’t recommend that particular design as a cut-out hubcap since the proboscis are so thin, it would almost certainly get broken quickly while in use.

I didn’t have a chance yet to work on it for a mobile device, but for those that have studio this should help with the square/rectangle issues.

Love it! I agree I didn’t think of that! It would break very easy!

This truly saved me! Two chairs were requested for the same child: one for school (with the potential to be used by multiple students) and one for home. Since the school requested their specific colors, I thought it’d be fun to add the logo to that one. I sent a photo of the finished chair for home, and then characters were requested. You saved me from having to reprint them! Thank you.
