Consequences of backing out of a build

Me either. And I will say @MakeGood_Noam and the rest of the team have been very open and responsive any time we make suggestions which is a very good thing to me.

MakeGood team has been very responsive to all my requests and suggestions. I had a suggestion about format of donation letters, @MakeGood_Noam responded quickly and implemented it within hours. I couldn’t get in touch with the family for a few days. @MakeGoodScott was able to get her on the phone and have her reach out; this actually ties into the topic of this thread—she realized that TMT was not suitable for her child and she was very grateful and apologetic. I unclaimed this request, but for now it is showing on the site–Request #1154.

Let me think of a status to put these in. They’re not unclaimed. they are more like … abandoned requests. but i dont like that word. if you unclaim it puts you into a penalty box just so we can keep an eye on it. When filament kits start being provided we’re concerned about people claiming just for the filament then backing out.

Automatic email I received uses the term “released” \

I think that this particular request should be removed, since this is child is unfortunately not a good fit for TMT (I sent you a copy of the email I received): this way other makers will not claim it.

we have an admin hold area for them so no one else claims. just dont want it crowded in there with other status. ill make “not a good match” or something for us to know

This is a suggestion for un claiming part: It would be helpful when you click “unclaim”, you would be prompted to enter a reason via few choices and a written option (with minimum word count)–similar to the process of submitting an Amazon return–I know not the best grouping, but it is efficient.

Oh yeah the free filament kits make this tricky.

Could we add a disclaimer to the free kits? Something along the lines of if you unclaim the build or don’t complete it then you have to pay back the kit price? The kits will be cheaper than what I can get it for by a long shot so I would have no problem with that personally. I am also not the person that would take a free kit and then ghost just to get the free filament.

One possibility might be getting access to the donation kits only after completing a chair. Meaning from your second chair on you can use the donated kits.

It would mean the first chair is on the maker’s dime but it ensures the maker is committed. I don’t love it as it would exclude those that can’t source materials on their own but it’s an option.

Allow anyone to buy a parts kit. but require a completed TMT build to gain access to the filament kits. But i want to also not limit it to allow the most people to get it.

I don’t think that putting requirements to qualify for a sponsored kit would create unreasonable limits– as of right now, every TMT is built on maker’s dime, and it does create a sort of a natural selection. It may sound elitist, but it takes a lot of skill, time, and money to make this project print efficiently and successfully.

I think earning the right to be sponsored is fair, even if it is not to waste resources: This is not a simple project to print, and dialing your settings is crucial to being able to complete this project with just a sponsored kit. I have easily wasted 4 kgs of filament with my first 2 builds due to failures and my own mistakes.

The reason I can’t cancel the TMT to the person who can’t be reached - This is my second TMT (with permission) FYI - Needs this to attend school - First day is Monday

Some great ideas being thrown around. I second or third the idea that donated kits go to those who have some skin in the game and already completed a build. I think the only other way to do it which would be an accounting challenge would be to have a first timer pay for a kit upfront and get refunded once delivered. Even a CC hold, like the cleaning fee they tack on when you rent a room (trash the room we are charging you) don’t deliver a TMT your card is being charged. Just look at the map. There are more Makers that don’t have a number by their name then those who do.

There’s two of them in the bronx near each other. I was going to pick them up next since I’m already here. Which one is the problem one?

It looks like it has already been removed from the map by Admin.

Admin didn’t say this was their address, I guess for privacy, but this was the original drop off location and google maps shows a residence.
