When it comes to the parts like the push handle and headrest, I am wondering if there are families who would never see a need for these, and therefore we could save resources by not building them. Would it be inappropriate to ask the family if they want them to be included? They are obviously very needed for many potential users.
It could be a useful feature of the request, actually, to have checkboxes for those removeable parts.
I have been fortunate enough to have requestors that have been angels. I really don’t think they mind you asking what they want… it’s like adding a personal touch in my opinion.
This is a great idea. We wanted to include everything just to give families the option. We will look at making the headrest and push handle optional.
If a kid can push themselves in the chair, we really dont want a push handle, because that will encourage the kid to NOT push themselves. We want kids moving!
I asked directly with my first (and only so far) build and the family was very receptive and answered that he’d need all the options. I included a photo. I asked:
Will -child’s name- need the base, the base and headrest, or the base with headrest and push handle? I can do any of the three I just didn’t want to delay delivery by printing parts he might or might not need. I’ve attached a photo with a sample of each.
Love this idea. I’ll hopefully claim my first build soon and this is a great idea. There’s need us makers spending extra time printing things families may never use.
I think I’ll ask the same 3 options. It gives them options and will get them a quicker delivery if not needed!
Agreed, printing the handle is challenging. I have a CoreXY and it’s still a little hairy. It also has a noticeable sag without support that corrects itself once you get to the supported top of the handle.
I’m going to support my next handle about 25% and 50% of the way up to hopefully prevent that.
