I just saw a video on Make Good’s Facebook story where someone had a parts kit (unsure if it was purchased or provided). Where/How can I get this for the current build I’ve accepted? Thanks!
School House Spools is working on kits but they are not ready yet. I asked a few days ago and @MakeGood_Noam said hopefully in a month they will be ready
Thanks for the info!
Thank you, I too emailed School House Spools. When I put together the parts a la carte, it was about $340 in total per TMT. $100 is a HUGE advantage.
You can do it cheaper than that per chair, but only if you are planning to do multiple chairs. I still don’t know how they are able to hit the $100 mark with filament included. That’s a real good deal!
Where do your source the filament from? That’s the biggest expense I found. There are about 8 requests within 100 miles of me, and I’m happy to dive in, yet the documentation lists $200/per chair, so I’m not sure where I’m falling short as most items are amazon or MCM.
I have been purchasing almost all my filament from AliExpress, some from Temu. Many colors are in very short supply, but the prices are great. I’m getting TPU - Geeetech for $8- PETG also for that price. Most ships from Ca, so I’m on the East coast so about 8-10 days ship time
Use Numakers PETG and use the discount coupon on your Rewards tab. The discount is $5 off PER SPOOL! This drops the price to $9 per spool.
Thank you, that is crazy good.
The deal must have gotten better since a few weeks ago when I made my last order from them. Was $10.99 a spool then. School House was a flat $10 a spool and once you complete 5 chairs you get 20% off for 24 spools I believe.
I am starting chair 5. I think, unfortunately, this will have to be my last one until cheaper material costs are available.
As per my last reply, @MakeGood_Noam this is what as an organization we can’t let happen. Someone builds 5 TMTs. They have proven themselves beyond a doubt. They have given thousands of hours of print time, prep time, finish time, build time, not to mention the time it takes to set up and deliver these. We need to be able to get if not complete build kits, then credits for materials by matching doners to makers. I’m not talking about any maker, you need to have some skin in the game, but you’ve built “X” chairs and laid out that type of time and money, you have proven themselves. Kimberly3d - Thank you
I think these 2 I am working on will be my last for a little bit. Not because of the material cost, but because all the request are just getting too far away with the price of fuel right now. But I will see. I have an order from school house that has been shipped for over 2 weeks now and USPS has yet to deliver. When it comes in that will drive me to want to make another I’m sure. I keep hoping something else will pop up a little closer.
I will say the discount from School House Spools is not a little one once you reach 5 chairs. I am hoping to be able to order a bunch from them in one shot with that discount and be stocked up on the main colors at least for when something pops up. I keep saying I am going to slow down now but I know me, these just mean to much and I will keep going as long as I can still put fuel in the truck to deliver them lol.
I understand the frustration with cost. In a few weeks (fingers crossed) we will have 200 COMPLETE kits (filament + hardware) available that will be on the platform. They will be $100. People can sponsor builds for that cost and then there will be zero cost to makers.
Just curious, how your first chair compares to your most current cost wise, if you wouldn’t mind sharing. As a newcomer, I’m curious what others are putting a chair out for nowadays vs. when you first started.
I have sent the flyer to my area St Louis Cardinal Glennon children’s, local CG therapy center and Mercy kids hospitals hoping also for families that are closer.
I printed the larger of the mini chair file and dropped it off as well so a visual can be seen. Sometimes that helps.
@boasist the cost of my fifth current chair has not been as much because I am using filament already purchased, leftover from the first four. I have only had to purchase four rolls for this chair because I did not have one of the colors they requested. If you take the cost that I have spent and you divide it out between the five chairs, I’m at around $360 a chair.
If I get a sixth chair then the cost of course will be less if there’s anything left over that I can use for that chair.
Getting a $100 kit would be amazing! The metal parts alone cost almost that.
How are you at 360/chair? I’m at $90 for Petg. 40 for tpu and something like 60 of hardware.
I get my petg/tpu from Amazon and it runs anywhere from $18 to $21 a roll @ 10-11 rolls per chair. The hardware from McMaster runs $88 then the bearings, I get on Amazon as well.
Where are you buying your filament that you’re getting it for $9?
