Well if you haven’t picked up on it, I’m a bit chatty…lol. I plan on being around for the long haul so since I will probably never meet most of you in person (I would like to get out to one of the MakeGood events) I thought this might be a good place to get to know one another. You are all a really great group. No one could be involved with something like this and not be:
So I’ll start - Hi, I’m Charles, Husband to a very understanding wife lol, raising an 8 yo girl and a 11 yo boy. I’m an Electrical Contractor by trade, running a business started by my Father in 1957. I work with my brother and Mother. My Nephew is going to college and plans on working in the business - 3 generations. We are very involved with our Church, School, Local food pantry, and Scouts (both children).
When not 3D printing, I like to take long walks on the Beach… lol sorry this was starting to sound like a dating profile…lol. I do like to walk on the beach, but I’m usually carrying a surf rod. I enjoy fishing and camping. I used to SCUBA dive, but not in years.
My real name is David and I live near Nashville TN. I’m an old geezer who taught myself Fusion and 3D printing AFTER retiring. I enjoy making things for use around the house and have created several models of historic structures around the county. The county courthouse even made the front page of our county paper.
My name is Jonathan. Father of one 17yo Son, Step father to 2 21 & 23yo girls. I am a Lift Boat Captain in the GOA as my main job, also run a business on the side selling 3D printed CNC Machines and all kinds of other 3D printed stuff, we also do custom CNC work and starting to get into some custom CNC CAD work. Started 3D printing in 2020 when I got a printer given to me. I think I got 3 successful prints off that machine lol. But it was enough to give me the bug. Since then I have bought and built many other 3D printers and currently have a small print farm with 2 Qidi Q2’s, 2 Qidi Q1 Pro’s, 3 Bambu A1’s & 4 Custom builds. Found out about the 3DTMT Project late last year and have been here ever since and don’t plan on going anywhere. This is an amazing project and has been a blast to be a part of!
I’m Logan! I live in Brooklyn, NYC and single, which means I have all the time in the world to waste money on printing supplies. I started printing 6yrs ago but this project got me working with TPU which I’ve been afraid to do for a long time. I have an old Creality CR-10S (which I’m trying to sell) and a new Creality K2 Plus. By trade I work in tech, most recently infrastructure security but generally all around cybersecurity focused for the last 15yrs.
CR-10S Pro was the first printer I bought new and it served me well for many years! I still have it but its been at least 2 years since its been plugged in lol.
Patrick here. I’m located in MD, about a half hour north of Baltimore. I’m relatively new (found out about the project on 3/27, now two build plates in on my first build). I work in healthcare IT and run an IT consulting business, mostly serving addiction non-profits in my area.
I’ve been 3D printing for a few years. I print some smaller functional things, but I really love big 3D-printed challenges. I saw the TMT on Reddit and it instantly resonated with me. Something large, functional, and desperately needed? Sign me up.
Here are some of my other larger projects:
An mATX computer case printed in ASA. Big for a print (300mm+), small for a computer case.
Logan - I am starting to really love TPU. It is making me want to get the new Snapmaker U1, multi-color TPU…. the possibilities.
Patrick - that I couldn’t even imagine building, even though in the contracting field I wire a lot of electronics, they all come with real good prints….lol
90% of my TMT builds are printed on just the 2 Q2 printers. But they are printed with PETG HF and a .6mm nozzle. I do print the head rest on one of the A1’s and usually print the TPU on one of them or one of the Q1 Pro’s. The filament cutter in the Q2’s doesn’t play nice with TPU for some reason lol.
Hello, I’m Chris. I am 51 years old and live in Bremerton, WA. My wife and I have 3 kids that we adopted through foster care (they are all siblings). The kids are 21/F, 12/M and 9/F.
I started 3D Printing in 2018 because I saw Youtube videos that made it look neat, and cheap. My first 3D printer was an Anet A8, which was like the VW Beetle of 3D printers - you always keep your tools out because you are constantly tweaking and fixing things, but you learn a lot. Then I went to Ender 3’s which were so nice compared to that, but still really finicky.
Now all of my Anet and Enders are out in the garage (the junkyard) because I will turn them into something else “someday”, and I have 2 Sovol printers (the SV06 ACE and the SV06 Plus ACE) and an Elegoo Centauri Carbon that I just picked up in February.
When people ask what I make with my 3D printers, the answer is mostly trash - I really like to make toys and gadgets and useful things, mostly for myself. And cute little seasonal decorations. But my space became so cluttered, I realized I can’t just print everything and keep it. I see a lot of people selling 3D prints on Etsy, or at craft fairs/farmers markets but that doesn’t appeal to me at all. I am blessed with a good job and don’t need to make money from 3D printing, so I am happy to give things away.
So when I discovered this project, I was like Of course, this is what I should do. My wife and kids are all on board. We have delivered 2 so far, and got to meet both families, and it has been so fun for all of us.
I just started on the 3rd one this week. Looking forward to a little road trip for this one.
Oh and getting to hear from all of you here has been icing on the cake.
I’m sure you could. It’s a long process, but it’s not as hard as it might seem. The Voron documentation is great, and the Voron Discord is a great resource for support. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely a neat project for those who are interested.
I would love to build a Voron but I think the parts are not cheap. And I don’t have the space anymore
A couple of years ago I built a little 3d printer called “the100” which is a CoreXY printer with a 3d-printed frame and a 160x160x150 build volume. I think I spent around $400 on it. Other people made these and were printing benchies with record-breaking speed. Mine was not that fast and I could barely get through a benchy without the nozzle clogging. It was kind of fun though. It eventually got demoted to the garage, though, because it was a hassle to use, especially for only being able to make small things.
Yeah Vorons definitely aren’t cheap. I got a kit that included everything from Formbot, which is a budget option with some rough edges, and it was almost $900. I got the biggest build plate I could (350mm), but smaller models aren’t that much cheaper. And the build, while doable, is a serious challenge.
On the plus side, after getting it built and calibrated, it’s the most rock-solid printer I’ve ever owned. Even with my 350mm bed and budget parts, mine can move pretty fast, although I don’t typically hit max speed or acceleration due to volumetric limits. Plus, there will always be parts available since it uses generic, off-the-shelf components for just about everything. So it’ll probably be the last printer I ever own.
Like I said, definitely not for everyone. But a solid option for those who are brave or stupid enough to build one
Hi, I’m Boris. I own and operate a company in Elmsford, NY that builds dental machines for veterinarians. I’m a veterinary technician by trade, accidentally turned business owner 8 years ago. I love to tinker and build things, and about year ago bought my first 3D printer, Bambulab P1S…… and things just got slightly insane from that point (as seen in the picture). I mostly print functional things, but I also love to tinker and assemble printers. This project made me feel truly validated, and I feel that I found a great community here!
Welcome Boris…. slightly is an understatement…. this project will probably get me a third…lol… any more than that and everything including me will be relocated to the backyard shed….
In the last 2 weeks I got another A1 and just 2 days ago ordered another Qidi Box for one of my Q2’s so I can do more than 4 colors with the wheels lol
Hi. Nice to meet all of you wonderful people! I’m Shannon, live in Ohio and the person my family turns to when they need something crafty made. By day I am a HR Manager (a nice one) and at night, I am a 3D printing maniac. I have been married for 31 great years to a wonderful guy who never questions how many Amazon packages I get a week and who is also my Assembler and Quality Control Inspector for this project. We have two daughters, who are both married and one grandson who is the sweetest little guy. I purchased my first printer, an Elegoo Neptune 3 with no WIFI capability (not sure what I was thinking) in October 2023 so I could print cookie cutters. I then decided I wanted to print stuff that was way cooler - so I purchased my Bambu A1 in November 2025, joined the MakerWorld Facebook group and then in January/February I saw someone post the Trainer Mobility. I thought it was the coolest thing and joined this amazing team and then quickly purchased a second printer, which is a Bambu P1S. I have absolutely no idea how to create files, which is the area that frustrates me most because I am usually pretty good with teaching myself stuff, but I will eventually get there. My husband and I love to vacation in Pensacola Beach, Florida where we enjoy watching the US Navy Blue Angels fly.
I love being a part of this project and seeing the impact we are all making in this BIG world…one family at a time!!
