McMaster Caster Mounts

I planned to buy the McMaster Casters when I started this build and printed the caster mounts while hardware shopping but I ended up buying everything on Amazon and printed the other mounts for them. I won’t be using these now or for future builds and don’t want to toss them if anybody is using the McMaster Casters and can use them? These are Kingroon Blue PETG, I am located in SC.

I actually used the stock caster mount with a generic Amazon caster. Instead of modifying the model, I printed some spacers that install around the caster’s foot to immobilize it. This probably wasn’t necessary, as the caster didn’t really move much without them. But I just wanted to be sure.

Something to think about if you can’t donate them to another build and would like to use them in the future.

Did the Amazon fit with the McMaster caster mount? I have one also I’d love to use an Amazon caster wheel for. We got a pack of four

This is how the McMaster mount fits with the four pack Amazon orange casters I bought. It is snug but I am not going to use it, I already printed the other mounts.

Yeah cant use that mount with the Amazon casters. There is a google drive link with the correct mounts for those. They fit much better and I had to raise the slot up just a tad because there is a tiny height difference between those casters and the McMaster ones.

Do you have the link?

Lol I do! Thankfully I was just emailing them to Scott to see if they might add them to the official parts list since a lot of people are using them.

Yeah if it’s not snug, you’ll want either new mounts or some spacers. I don’t have the STLs, but I basically imported the McMaster mounts into blender and did some quick and dirty booleans to get spacers of multiple sizes that could slide between the caster and the mount and take up that extra space.

Somehow this info got spread all over the forum and many people were missing the adjusted mounts for these casters. Hopefully @MakeGoodScott will be good with adding them to the list with the proper part and that will make things easier going forward. Several people have used my mount with these casters and not one complaint. Just print them instead of the McMaster ones.

I also worry that using the spacers in the McMaster mount will have the height of the caster wrong since they are a few MM different.

Probably outside of our boundaries, but we could parameterize the file and then it’ll be easily adjusted for custom/different casters to maintain the stock finished height.

That’s fair. In my case, the height of the caster foot must have been close to the McMaster. It really didn’t move around that much. I had to push really hard to cause the foot to shift. It probably would have been fine without any spacers. I added them more out of an abundance of caution.

But you’re right. There’s more to it than just taking up the horizontal space. If in doubt, asking here or making a custom mount fitted to your caster is the best course of action.

Possibly but that would not be an easy part to Parameterize. There is a small window to work with on the height. If those Amazon casters were 1mm taller I’m not sure they would work. If anyone wants to use a different caster you can send me a link to the ones you want to use and I will see if it will work and make the CAD adjustments so it stays exactly how it needs to for the height and fit the base plate correctly. Just have to be patient with me and I will work on it when time allows and post up for anyone that wants it.

I agree. And I hate to see people take a bunch of time to make the adjustments to the mount when its already done and tested by many people. That is why I am trying to get it added to the main list. For sure not a guarantee that it will happen, but I am trying.

The height is the same but the side gaps I felt was too much that it could shift with use. I did print the other ones already and have been just printing those. I was originally only posting these on here to see if anybody could use them who uses the McMaster casters instead of me just tossing them out.

The heights are not the same. McMaster is 4.9"/124.46mm and Amazon is 5.15"/131mm

That is where the main adjustment was needed. The spacers for the baseplate you did were fine for that, but they did not make any adjustment for the caster being 5.5mm taller. That is why you need to use the caster mount that was linked above.

I was referencing the assembly, they slid in with no effort just the same. I didn’t make any spacers, additions, or do any changes to the model. I printed the other mounts to use instead and I only posted these to see if somebody who was using McMasters could use them instead of me tossing them out since I have no intentions of using these. I posted the pics of the Amazon caster in the McMaster mount as a reply to the question above to show that even though they fit, there are large side gaps when assembled.

Ok no worries. I think I just misunderstood you. I am not upset or anything by any means, and I hope I didnt come across that way! If so I apologize!

Hopefully everything will get added to the list and make things a lot easier going forward.

Not at all, I had sent you a message because I thought what I was trying to explain made sense in my head but wasn’t making sense typed out lol
