Messaging family before accepting

Are there plans to introduce a feature of messaging a family before accepting the build?

I feel it could be handy in certain situations. Ie, family requested pink and purple, I have a bulk of pink at minute, would you be happy with just pink? Or maybe, it’s going to take me 8 weeks at the minute, are you happy I accept and can you wait 8 weeks?

Sure there’s other situations, or is it just me?!

Thanks!

We have to balance things. I kept pre-acceptance messaging off from makers to families to prevent shopping for builds. I dont want to get families hopes up then have a maker turn them away. Open to ideas. One I just had was to make those messages public on the build story page perhaps?

Shopping for builds? How do you mean? A maker would pick and choose who they want to build for?

That’s fair enough though, I agree that any chance to reduce misuse of this should be in place.

That’s a good idea making it publicly viewable, the sort of questions I’m thinking of, I would have no problem anyone reading!

As I’m sure anyone genuine would.

Accept a build. message family a bit. then unclaim. thats why any unclaiming puts a maker in a penalty box until an admin releases them to claim more builds.

I do think the public question/answer thing is something i’m ok with. The transparency of it I think will be a natural barrier to anything uncouth. @MakeGood_Noam if you’re ok with it I can make it happen.

I’m totally fine with it. I think we should add ‘a maker may reach out to ask clarifying questions prior to claiming a build. Please understand this maker may not ultimately claim your build’ or something to that affect somewhere for the families to read

There’s a request in a rural area that’s been waiting 113 days. They requested pink. I happen to have a lot of purple and a bit of pink on hand. I sent them the following. I figured this was the best compromise with the tools available. It would be nice if there was a way to get this type of confirmation before picking up the build so if there was someone better suited (closer, right colors) they could pick it up instead. I’m not sure the right way to go about that though.

Sent to family:

"Good afternoon. I noticed your request has been waiting a while but we do not have any active approved builders close to you. I’m just North of Dallas. I could build a chair that was a purple base with pink highlights if you can split the difference in the drive with me when it’s ready to be delivered. We could do the hand off somewhere around Athens, TX. I understand if this does not work for your family. If so, let me know and I’ll “unclaim” your build so that another builder can claim it.

Totally appropriate and a great way to make it happen!

This is deployed. now in the build story:

Only if the family responds to the question will be it published onto the build story page.

Double benefit, it’ll keep multiple builders from asking the family, the same questions

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I just sent a message letting the family that is close to me know that if no one claims the build in the next two weeks, that I will be claiming it next. I don’t want to claim it if I can’t work on it now, but I also want them to know someone out there wants to build their TMT

Awesome! I’ve been reaching out to the oldest requests within my zone to be sure they’re still in need of a device. Getting the print queue ready!

If we do ask a family a question, how do we see the answer? I know it says it’ll appear on the story page, yet I don’t know how to get there.

Thank you.

You will see the response in the messages area of your page.

Looking at my account on my phone I do not see an option to View Build Story. Only Claim and Ask Question for each build available to claim.

You can view build story from the Map. But usually the “story” is listed as “notes from family” in the ready to claim section of the maker dashboard

on the map? you logged in?

Thank you. I see it on the map. I was looking on my Maker Dashboard, Ready to Claim. In that list, only Claim Build and Ask A Question are available.

just deployed it there. give ie 10 minutes.
